Hello, my name is Cassandra Piceu. I was born and raised in Saginaw, MI, and have been living in the Metro-Detroit area since 2010. I'm a wife, mother of two beautiful children and stay at home mom since 2011. Being a mother is one of the greatest joys in my life. It has been a demanding, yet rewarding feat that has brought me great pleasure. When my children began school full time, I decided to follow my passion. This is when my journey as a Postpartum Doula began and I pursued my certification through DONA.
Growing up, I was the "babysitter of the neighborhood", and took a natural liking to nurturing and caring for babies. My mother and I watched "A Baby Story" on TLC together at a very young age- which began my insight into this world of birth and new babies. I became an aunt for the first time at the age of 12, and I served as a mini-version of a Postpartum Doula- as I helped nurture and care for the moms and babies. I didn't know that this would be the start of a passion for me. My interest in that sacred time (the one that we consider "The 4th Trimester") would grow as the people in my life, including myself, started having children. I became the "go-to-person" for support and information for new moms.
My experience as a mother would prove to be eye-opening on how arduous, yet blissful this time can be. The range of feelings and emotions that come along with this magical time was something I did not expect. As I learned how the woman's body changes to give life and support that life after birth; my appreciation for this subject evolved. When I had my 2nd child, I thought I had it all down, and my experience as a mother would be enough to make these moments smooth-sailing. What I found instead is that each birth, each child, and each experience is different. I learned you can not expect the same experience with pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.
The phrase, "it takes a village..." was coined for a reason. Becoming a mother for the first, second, third, forth, or how ever many times, is invaluable and full of change and growth. The need for support, guidance and comfort is never greater immediately following the birth of a child. My goal is to assist mom in anyway she deems helpful during these moments. My scope of help includes nurturing, educating, assessing, referring, organizing or whatever can help"mother the mother". I am committed to assisting those in need and supporting those in my village.
